Weekly Update

August 18th, 2005

Greetings y'all,

Mr. and Mrs. Meredith were in San Diego on the Sabbath of August 13, where 61 happy and excited brethren greeted them, reported our San Diego minister, Mr. Harold Way.  Mr. Meredith delivered the sermon and spoke on "Putting Our Faith and Trust in God." Following services, the Merediths spent much time fellowshipping with the congregation.  "Later that evening, they were treated to a meal and they fellowshipped more with brethren at a local member's home.  Everyone truly was inspired and encouraged by Mr. Meredith's visit," added Mr. Way.

CHURCH ADMINISTRATION

Ministerial Moves

As a result of recent administrative changes at headquarters and other changes affecting the field ministry, we have had to reassess the moves planned for this fall. After several discussions with headquarters personnel, regional pastors and the individuals involved, we have decided to proceed with the following moves in November.

Dr. Jeffrey Fall will move to Sacramento to become the Regional Pastor of the Western Region. Mr. Rod McNair will move to Charlotte to assume duties in the Church Administration Department. Mr. Darrell Lovelady will move to Milwaukee to become the Area Pastor serving churches in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. Dr. Scott Winnail will remain in Charlotte until next summer to work on projects for CAD.

All other previously announced moves are being reevaluated. Further moves will probably not occur until next summer. This will give us time to further evaluate the needs in specific areas of the field.—Douglas Winnail

Impact of TV program – UK & Europe

The new TV station for the Tomorrow's World program has made a significant difference in the responses we are seeing in this part of the world. We are receiving phone calls and requests for literature, information about the Church and requests for visits from various points across the UK, Ireland and countries on the continent. There has been a noticeable upsurge in these contacts since the TV coverage began.—Douglas Winnail

Prayer Request Update

Mr. Glen Gilchrist reports: my infection sites are gradually improving, with one of the four sites swelling up, but appearing to stabilize, and the two older sites improving.  My doctors have been amazed at the course of my infections—which I take to be God's intervention.  I am on a couple of courses of treatment that should result in improvement in the next week or so. My humble thanks for everyone's prayers and concern!

The Adventures of LYC Wyoming
As Reported by Mr. Sheldon Monson

On Tuesday, August 2, 2005, seventeen campers and six staff arrived in Teton Village, Wyoming, about to embark on one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of their lifetime. The next morning, the hikers prepared their backpacks to make room for the additional 440 pounds of gear, food and supplies that would be hauled on our backs for the six-day trek into the mountains. After the weigh-in, some of the girls had packs that weighed up to 45 pounds, while the men's packs weighed up to 60 pounds.

Over the next few days, we hiked in and out of the Teton National Park making our way to the Basin Lakes where we spent the Sabbath. We thoroughly enjoyed a dip in one of the area's many glacier lakes. For Sabbath services, Mr. Dan Contardi led us in hymns; Mr. Mike Kreyer gave the sermonette; and Mr. Sheldon Monson gave a sermon on "The Pursuit of Excellence." Sharon Rowbal and Jen Bowman treated us to a unique version of El Shadai for some truly special music. The rock podium and beautiful stage flowers were provided by God. We all agreed that it was truly an inspiring and rejuvenating Sabbath.

On our last morning, we woke up early and broke camp shortly after 6 am to climb up the one-mile slope back to the Skyline Trail at the base of the Tetons. As we arrived at the crest, the sun popped out from behind the three peaks of the Teton Mountains and we were treated to a sunrise that few people ever see.

Weather reports had shown rain in the forecast for this trip. We had nothing but sunshine. We were blessed and God was with us. It was an adventure we will never forget.

COMMENTS

In his first address as the newly appointed Prime Minister, Winston Churchill declared to the House of Commons, on May 13, 1940: "We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight {…} on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength {…} We shall never surrender…" Such determination for victory should be ours today, as Christians who have a calling and a much higher mission from God. Yet, some of us give up when facing trials or challenges, rather than remain strong and confident. Christ never gave up under the attacks of His persecutors. He never surrendered. Why can't we walk in His footsteps with the power of the Holy Spirit we are given? Why should adversity, a loss of a job, or of a friend, or of anything, cause us to be depressed? As servants of God, if our eyes are constantly on the big picture, then we can share not only the confidence of a Winston Churchill, but of the Apostle Paul who praised God, saying, "Now to Him who us able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (Ephesians 3:20).

Y'all have a wonderful Sabbath.
