Church News
This week at the office
March 4, 2010
This past weekend was another exciting one. A total of 300 people attended three more Tomorrow's World Bible Lectures, one by Mr. Ames in Atlanta, Georgia and two by Mr. Pieter van der Byl in South Africa-167 of those who attended were visitors. Next weekend (March 13-14), we have another series of lectures scheduled for Huntsville, Alabama, and Jacksonville and Ocala, Florida. This week in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been busy conducting meetings, making phone calls and preparing for his travels during the Spring Holy Days. Mr. Rod King, Mr. Gerald Weston and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pyle have been in Nashville attending a convention for the National Religious Broadcasters. Last weekend's Sabbath service and Sunday's mini-conference on Leadership Training in Chattanooga were very encouraging and inspiring.

Chile Earthquake
March 4, 2010
God protected all our members in Chile from harm during last Saturday's 8.8-magnitude earthquake, and we have heard of the safety of all the members of the United Church of God, for which we are very grateful to Him. At the time of the quake, one of our Church families was south of Santiago, closer to the epicenter. The quake was a frightening experience, but they witnessed God's mighty intervention for their protection.
Our elder in Santiago, Mr. Sergio Carvajal, has personally visited all our brethren there and has assessed their situations. Only one widow suffered material damage, as the wall separating her house from her neighbor's succumbed to the tremor. The roof to our meeting hall also suffered damaged. Please continue to remember the brethren and people of Chile in your prayers.

Chile Update
March 1, 2010
After some difficulty, Mr. Hernandez was able to contact some of the brethren in Chile and learned that all our members there are safe. Although, some have might have sustained material damage. We are very grateful to God for His protection. Thank you for your prayers. More details will follow later on.

February 18, 2010
Some sunny weather has returned to the southeastern part of the USA this week, after last weekend's snow. Mr. Meredith taped another Tomorrow's World program today, titled "Will America Cease to Exist?," offering The World Ahead booklet. Mr. and Mrs. Ames have returned from a very successful TW Bible lecture in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. Scott Winnail is currently attending the annual meeting for the Association for Biblical Higher Education in Orlando, Florida, and will fly to Jamaica to give a follow-up Bible lecture in Kingston this Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hilgenberg are visiting the office in Charlotte this week. Mr. Hilgenberg pastors congregations in Oklahoma and northern Arkansas. Dr. Germano is also here this week to tape lectures for Living University and to work on university-related matters. I had a very positive trip to the Los Angeles area last weekend for Sabbath services and a leadership mini-conference.

This week at the office
February 4, 2010
Judging from the reactions to President Obama’s State of the Union message, there are growing concerns in the nation and abroad over the America’s ballooning deficit and the implications for the global financial system. The months ahead could be interesting. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been holding meetings and staying in touch with ministers in the field. He will be writing a co-worker letter and preparing another television script in the days ahead. Mr. and Mrs. Ames will be in Kingston, Jamaica, for services on the Sabbath and a Tomorrow’s World Bible Lecture on Sunday. Your prayers for their safe travel and a good turnout for the lecture are appreciated. Dr. Fall reports an encouraging response to the second TW Bible Lecture in Sacramento last Sabbath (see below). I had a very profitable visit with congregations in Columbus and Akron, Ohio, last weekend. While the weather was quite cold, the attitudes of the brethren were warm and positive. We are happy to have Mr. and Mrs. Rod Reynolds visiting Headquarters on the “HQ visit program” this week. Mr. Reynolds is the Area Pastor for congregations in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Mr. Ames recorded, “Prove the Bible,” offering the booklet The Bible: Fact or Fiction? Mr. Rod McNair and Mr. Crockett conducted a teleconference with Festival Site Coordinators from around the world on Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Germano was in Charlotte this week to record lectures for Living University and to take care of university-related business. Last Sabbath, I was with about 100 brethren in Sacramento, California and conducted a Tomorrow’s World Bible Study. Dr. Fall will follow-up with a presentation this Sabbath, titled “Where Is God’s Church Today?”

Haiti Update
January 28, 2010
All of our members are safe. The homes of two Church families were completely destroyed by Haiti’s January 12 earthquake. The homes of additional families were damaged and are unfit to inhabit. We are making arrangements for a new place for our members to meet for services, as well as assisting the families.

This week at the office
January 21, 2010
We have made contact with our brethren in Haiti. All are alive, but some will have rebuilding to do, and we are exploring ways to assist them. Meanwhile, world events continue to move in sobering directions. Severe weather, widespread corruption and threats of violence continue to dominate headlines. In the USA, news items are beginning to appear in the press that “the hand writing is on the wall” for a President and his party who have been pushing a liberal socialist agenda that advocates same-sex marriage and government spending that threatens not only America’s financial stability, but the financial stability of the global economic system. Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and holding meetings. We have had a number of planning sessions regarding the budget and anticipated activities for 2010, and yesterday we held a Regional Pastors meeting over the Internet. This week, Living University started a new semester in its third year of operation with more than one hundred students. On Saturday, we will hold a Tomorrow’s World Bible Lecture in Sacramento, California. Your prayers will be appreciated for that event.
Haiti Update
January 21, 2010
The tragic aftermath of Haiti’s January 12 earthquake is unfathomable. We are, however, comforted to know and deeply grateful that God protected the lives of all our Church members, and their families, in Port-au-Prince. Last Sabbath, all the brethren except one prospective member met at the place where services used to be held, our deacon’s home, which was completely destroyed by the earthquake. From there, a member with a working cell phone was able to communicate with Dr. Wilner Pierre, our elder in Charlotte, to give him the good news of the brethren’s well being! When Dr. Pierre shared the news with the Charlotte congregation during his sermonette, the moved headquarters brethren erupted in applause.
Our brethren in Haiti didn’t have much, physically speaking, before the earthquake. Now they have less. We are thankful, though, that they are all alive! We are in the process of finding ways to send them all the material help that they need, and we thank God for continuing to protect them. Please keep them in your prayers, since strong aftershocks are still occurring on the fault line that runs through the Caribbean.

Haiti Update
January 18, 2010
Thanks to God, all of our members in Haiti are alive. Most of them even gathered for the Sabbath at the place were services used to be held. We are in the process of finding ways to send them direct aid.

Haiti Update: Member Contacted
January 15, 2010
Yesterday afternoon my secretary, Debbie, was able to make contact with one of our members in Haiti. Dr. Wilner Pierre was also able to talk to him. This member wasn't hurt during the earthquake and all his family was protected as well. Because of the chaos, he hasn't been able to make contact with our other brethren but he said he would try to travel to the location where our deacon lives and where the Church meets, to see how conditions are there. We will keep you informed. Please keep Haiti in your prayers. Have a nice Sabbath.

Haiti Update: Disaster Relief Efforts
January 14, 2010
The incredible devastation in the island nation of Haiti has touched everyone as scenes of massive destruction and human suffering are playing out in all the news media. At present, the situation in the country is chaotic and delivery of aid is going painfully slowly. The Church does have a Disaster Relief Fund and a donation will be made for general relief of the populace through a reputable organization that is equipped to deliver the aid. In addition, as soon as the needs of our members in Haiti can be determined we will do what we can to get financial aid to them. You prayers for this to be accomplished very soon will be appreciated.

Internet Update: French Website Sets New Records
January 14, 2010
2009 was a record-breaking year for our websites in the U.S. and also around the world. Mr. VG Lardé reports that our French website, www.mondedemain.org, set several new records. The number of visitor sessions exceeded the 200,000-mark for the first time with 222,463 visitor sessions, which represents an increase of 22% over the previous year. The number of articles, booklets, radio broadcasts, sermons, and commentaries downloaded from the website passed the 300,000-mark, with 328,489 items downloaded. From a different perspective, these figures represent more than 600 visits to the website and 900 items downloaded each day! People from 123 different countries visited the Le Monde de Demain website last year. It is exciting indeed to see how God has blessed and multiplied our efforts to deliver His message through the Internet.

Internet Update: Two Million YouTube Views and Counting!
January 7, 2010
We have recently passed a major milestone with more than two million views of our videos posted on YouTube. We currently have 560 videos on our YouTube channel. Dylan King updates our YouTube channel and first began posting the Tomorrow’s World telecast videos to YouTube back in March of 2007. We now have more than 1,800 subscribers to our channel who receive an e-mail notification each time a new video is added.
Social video sites, such as YouTube, provide a convenient and popular way for videos to be viewed and shared with friends. It has been exciting to hear from some individuals, now attending services with us, who first found out about us as a result of seeing the Tomorrow’s World program on YouTube!

This week at the office
December 31, 2009
This week has been pleasantly “low key” as we wind up another calendar year and get ready for another semester of Living University classes. Last weekend, more than 220 brethren converged on Charlotte for a special Sabbath service and dinner/dance on Saturday and family activities on Sunday. In his sermon, Mr. Meredith reviewed the recent history of God’s Church and outlined the challenges ahead as we approach the end of this age. This week he recorded a new Tomorrow’s World television program titled, “Benchmarks of Prophecy,” which offers the booklet Fourteen Signs Announcing Christ’s Return.

Internet Update: Continued Growth
December 17, 2009
The number of people visiting our websites around the world continues to grow. Last month we were blessed with a 30% increase in the number of visits to the Tomorrow’s World website compared with the previous November. This comes at a time when due to cost-saving measures, our Internet ad spending was 30% less than a year ago! Among our international websites, the French website, www.mondedemain.org, experienced the greatest increase in visits during the same time frame. The French website is updated by M. VG Lardé. Surely the increase comes from God (1 Corinthians 3:6).

Here in Charlotte, Mr. Meredith has been writing and conducting meetings. He also taped a new Tomorrow’s World program titled, “Blessings of Righteous Government,” offering the booklet The World Ahead: What Will It Be Like? Mr. Crockett reports that Festival plans are proceeding well for next year. We are also planning the budget for 2010, and we would appreciate your prayers as we go through this process. I had a very profitable trip to the West Coast last weekend, where I visited congregations in La Crescenta and Garden Grove, California, in addition to several other visits. Mr. Martin Fannin reports that, in spite of very inclement weather, seven new people managed to show up for his Bible lecture in the Blairsville, Georgia area last Sabbath. We are coming to the end of another semester of Living University classes, with more than 100 students enrolled. Registration for the Spring Semester is also underway for anyone desiring to increase their knowledge of the Scriptures.

November 25, 2009
We have had a very busy and stimulating week with all four of the television presenters at the office. Mr. Rod King, Mr. Wallace Smith and Mr. Mario Hernandez all taped new Tomorrow’s World television programs this week. Mr. King recorded a program titled, “Jerusalem: City of Peace?” which offers the booklet The Middle East in Prophecy. Mr. Wallace Smith taped two programs, “Seven Signs of the Antichrist” (offering the booklet on the Antichrist) and “Diagnosis: Christianity,” offering The Big Picture DVD. Mr. Smith also taped two promotional videos for our Internet effort. We also had a brief visit by Mr. Rees Ellis, the Area Pastor for Belgium, to work out with Mr. Apartian more details of the return of the Belgian congregation to the Living Church of God. At our weekly executive luncheon, Mr. Meredith led a discussion about more effective ways for reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Last Sabbath, I had a very encouraging visit at a combined service with the West Virginia congregations. On Sunday at their home, Mr. and Mrs. Shumway hosted a mini-conference that Mr. Shumway and I conducted for leaders in that area. A number of new people attended the Tomorrow’s World Bible lecture that Mr. Martin Fannin conducted last Sabbath in Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Fannin will conduct another lecture on December 5 the in Blairsville, Georgia area. Your prayers for these lectures are much appreciated.

Council of Elders meets, November 16–18
November 20, 2009
Dr. Roderick C. Meredith chaired three days of meetings of the Living Church of God Council of Elders, November 16–18. Council members discussed news of the Work and future plans, and considered a number of doctrinal and administrative matters. For three members -- Messrs. Rodger Bardo, Martin Fannin and Sheldon Monson -- this was the first Council of Elders meeting they have attended in Charlotte. Former COE member Mr. Jonathan McNair, who currently oversees LCG youth programs, also sat in on some sessions.

Encouraging reports are coming in from around the world, in spite of some of the trials that a number of brethren encountered during the Feast—especially in the Philippines. Festival attendance this year was greater than last year. Here in Charlotte, we are getting back into the groove of daily tasks—and that includes preparing for the Feast in 2010! Living University classes resumed this week, and we have several Tomorrow’s World Bible Lectures scheduled over the next several weeks.

Mr. Ames will be presenting a Tomorrow’s World Bible Lecture in Toronto this Sunday after Trumpets. About 6,300 subscribers have been invited to attend. Please keep that event in your prayers. Please pray also that God will protect everyone travelling during the Holy Days and that He will bless and inspire the Feast of Tabernacles that will be held in more than 40 sites around the world.

Follow-Up Tomorrow’s World Bible Lecture in Chicago a Success!
August 27, 2009
The follow up lecture held on August 22 in Chicago was a huge success! Forty-three visitors met with 33 members, primarily from the Chicago congregation, for a follow-up to Dr. Winnail’s presentation given on August 15. Visitors heard a message titled, “Where Is God’s Church Today?” Many visitors stayed long after the presentation for further discussion of the message and to ask additional Bible questions.

Online literature requests are averaging more than 8,500 per month (compared to 7,100 per month last year at this time). Television responses are running 13% higher than last year, and visit requests are about 7% ahead of last year. This week, Mr. Meredith wrote a letter to brethren and co-workers that discussed aspects of Living University relevant to many U.S. residents. He also conducted a teleconference for the Council of Elders. On Thursday we held a Living University orientation and reception for our new on-site students.

This week we held the first Internet-based conference for the Spanish Work with more than 30 individuals from eleven countries participating on Sunday, 22 February, 2009. It was conducted by Dr. Douglas Winnail, Mr. Dibar Apartian, and Mr. Rod McNair from the headquarters building in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Mario Hernandez and Mr. Tony Mora in California provided translation. Other participants were in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Spain. Computer webcams allowed those involved to see as well as hear the sessions as they were delivered.
After greetings were exchanged online, the conference kicked off with a pre-recorded presentation by Dr. Meredith in which he reminded everyone of our mission and purpose. Additional conference topics included Church government, baptismal counseling, divine healing, holding public Bible lectures, Living University and other resources to build the Church of God. The conference was designed to provide those who are already guiding and shepherding the flock of God in these areas with the tools to do so more effectively.
The atmosphere was one of joy, enthusiasm for the Work of God and brotherly love. It was exciting for all involved to see how technology can assist the Church as it seeks to do the great Work set before God’s people in preparing the way for the return of Jesus Christ.

Work is proceeding on schedule in the new building housing the TV studio and offices for media personnel.
This week, Dr. Meredith held meetings and made personal phone contact with individuals across the country.
Mr. Charles Ogwyn reports that the online Bible Study Course is now being taken by individuals in 111 countries
around the world. Mr. and Mrs. Crockett are in Michigan. He is attending a Religious Conference Management
Association meeting. These meetings provide useful contacts for planning future Festival sites. Last weekend,
I gave a Public Bible Lecture in Atlanta on the theme “What’s Ahead for America?” In the PowerPoint lecture I
explained how to identify America in prophecy and what Bible prophecy reveals about America’s future. We had 69
visitors attend the lecture. Some of the attendees were brand-new, some had previous contact with the Church
and some were from other COG groups. Your prayers will be appreciated for a follow-up lecture that will be
conducted this weekend.

We have had a very positive Council of Elders meeting this week here in Charlotte. The reports presented by the
Regional Directors and Regional Pastors have been very encouraging—especially the very inspiring comments on
this year’s Feast of Tabernacles, the positive attendance trends, several very generous special offerings and
the strong levels of financial support we have received this year. It appears that God is preparing His Work
to fulfill its mission of warning the world and preaching the exciting Gospel of the soon coming Kingdom of God.
I was also very glad to be able to lead many of the meetings. In my absence on two afternoons, Mr. Ames and
Dr. Winnail guided the meetings.

New Congregations
November 14, 2008
Earlier this year, we broke the 300-mark in our number of official LCG church congregations worldwide. To date, we
have 306 congregations in 44 countries. About half of them are located in the United States, and slightly
more than half are located in other countries. Additionally, we have members scattered in several other
countries, where no official congregations have been organized yet. Since part of our mission is “To feed
the flock and to organize local Church congregations to provide for the spiritual and material needs of
our members as God makes it possible (1 Peter 5:1-4; John 21:15-18)”
(Official Statement of Fundamental Beliefs),
we are very happy to see that God is giving us growth and that more congregations are being organized as
a result. Our newest congregation is located in Billings, Montana, where a group of about a dozen will be
attending services.

This week at the office
October 7, 2008
Tuesday is the day the Executive Team usually has lunch with Dr. Meredith in his office to discuss Church business and to update him on various projects. Even though he is still recovering from his recent stroke, he was able to come in to the office for the luncheon today and conduct our meeting.
Dr. Meredith was in good spirits and enjoyed hearing what has been going on in his absence, while offering his guidance and comments on the various reports that were presented.
He did ask that we continue to pray for his complete recovery, since his progress is going much slower than he would like. His mental acuity is fine, but he is physically weak, and becomes fatigued easily. He is eager to get back to work and to serve with full vigor at the helm of the Church.
In the meantime, the Work is going well, with outstanding responses to the Tomorrow’s World television program. We can also report increased attendance in the USA and Canada, but attendance figures are incomplete for other International areas at this writing. Encouragingly, even in this uncertain economic climate, God’s people have responded to the needs of His Work, and as a result we are slightly ahead of budget for the Holy Day offering for Trumpets and regular income, year to date.
Have a wonderful Day of Atonement and an inspiring and bountiful Feast of Tabernacles.

Internet Update: Milestones Reached
February 6, 2008
January was a very exciting month on our websites. Last month we reached two important milestones!
In January, we crossed the million mark with 1,077,864 pages read online. We passed the hundred
thousand mark with 100,862 people visiting our primary US websites last month. The previous record
for the number of people visiting our websites was 88,244 and was set this past November. Our reach
and impact through the Internet continues to grow as God opens doors of opportunity for us and
guides us forward.

Living Youth Camp: - Vanuatu
January 16, 2008
The first-ever camp for youths of the Living Church of God was recently held in Vanuatu. Nineteen youths living on the island of Malekula came to Orap for a camp of four days between 18 - 21 December.
They enjoyed activities and lessons presented by Elder Jerry Sam and parents of the youths. There were bible studies and also lessons of a very practical nature.
Noel Meten gave instruction and a fascinating field demonstration on the correct planting of yams which are a very important staple food crop. Fathers guided children on the proper slaughter and butchering of a young bullock. We all enjoyed the subsequent dishes of veal.
The young people were accommodated in housing which local members have been building during regular, weekly working-bees. This housing is also available for visitors who will be made very welcome during the Feast of Tabernacles. Any overseas families who would like to attend please contact Kinnear Penman in New Zealand.

Media Update: Strong Response
This weekend we began the new year with program #321, “2008 and Prophecy,” offering Prophecy Fulfilled:
God’s Hand in World Affairs. From Thursday through Sunday, we received 2,837 phone calls. We are
expecting the total count for the week to go over 3,500. Our highest new-year’s program, “2005 and
Prophecy,” generated 3,727 responses. So, this week’s response-count is the second highest for a
new-year weekend.

Internet Update: Looking Back On 2007
January 3, 2008
In many ways, 2007 was a record year for reach and response through our various websites. Our primary
US websites were visited 1,763,015 times in 2007. Those visitors downloaded a total of 9,727,286
pages, not counting telecasts, sermons, and booklets from these websites. Over the past year we have
averaged 80,488 unique visitors per month. In June we reached a major milestone with Google - over
1,000,000 visitors to our site as a direct result of our AdWords campaigns. It took 5 years and 4
days to reach this milestone with Google. God has greatly blessed our efforts on the Internet and
as He continues to open doors and guide us forward, our reach and impact will continue to grow.

Anniversary Weekend: Huge Success
January 2, 2008
The celebration and activities this past weekend, commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Global/Living
Work of God, were a huge success! On Friday afternoon a marriage seminar was held at the HQ building
along with special activities for teens and also for small children. The teens enjoyed the opportunity
to see several “behind the scenes” aspects of the Work, including the television set, the audio studio,
and the mail room. A high point of the teen activity on Friday was the chance to actually run the
television set – including the camera! For Sabbath services, there were 505 present and the atmosphere
was like that of the Feast! Saturday evening there was much fellowship over a banquet and later a dance.
On Sunday there were activities for all age groups – children, teens, singles, and adults. For all who
contributed to the success of this wonderful weekend – a warm thank you.

Media Update: Milestone Reached
We are happy to report that this past week's response pushed our annual worldwide TV total over 200,000.
This is the first time for the Tomorrow's World television program to generate 200,000 responses in a
year's time. To add a little perspective to this, it took the Work's first
four years and three months
to bring in the first 200,000 responses! The television program's worldwide response has grown at an
average annual rate of 22 percent per year over the past eight years. We thank God and Jesus Christ
for this tremendous growth. It is a great way to end the calendar year of 2007.
